red velvet cupcakes

When my friend, Azimah, asked if I could make sports car themed cupcakes for the husband's birthday, I was so excited that I was very tempted to say yes... but with less than 24 hours to do the job, I realised that I wouldn't have had enough time.

We decided instead on "regular" red velvet cupcakes with a message on them - "PAPA IS 53". Azimah also mentioned that her husband's favourite colour is red and before ending the phone call, she said, "Surprise me."

After sending my daughter to school the next morning, I got straight to work. The cupcakes were out of the oven and the fondant cut outs were done by the time I had to go fetch all three children from school.

With some time left on my hands, I decided to make these flags...
